Fairies still exist, a storytelling time machine YE

Fairies still exist, a storytelling time machine was a youth exchange aiming to inspire young people into (re)discovering the European cultural heritage and understanding their own culture better.

The preparation started with the advanced planing visit that took place 12-15th of October, 2018, where the group leaders came to Esch-sur-Alzette to discuss the foreseen program of activities, divide and structure the workshops and brainstorm on the final performance. The group leaders also prepared and went through all the logistics of the project.

This project took place in Luxembourg city 30 October to 7 November 2018. Fairytales contain important cultural heritage passed from generation to generation that is currently on the edge of extinction, which is why this youth exchange project took the challenge to upgrade the national fairytales and classics to match the current situation in Europe.

The participants created their own fairytales from scratch through which they presented the current reality in Europe viewed through their eyes. They had the opportunity to (re)discover the potential of their own body and improve their public speaking skills. They also became more aware on the culture and heritage contained and preserved within fairytales for many years already.

The group did a lot of acting and performing which helped individuals to build up on their self-confidence and advance social and civic skills. The participants have analyzed the structure of fairytales, through which they practiced and reinforced their critical thinking ability.

The project culminated with a theatre performance in ‘Konrad cafe’ in Luxembourg city center where the international groups performed their own fairytales in front of local audience.
